Our second Art competition “Still Life” started in October 2022 and concluded on November 10, 2022. Art Room Gallery received entries from many countries around the world: USA, China, Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, UK, Netherlands and New Zealand. The Still Life theme in this competition included a diversity in types, styles and mediums (oil on linen, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, pencil, digital, photography, graphite, charocal). The following evaluation criteria has been used for judging the artwork: creativity, interpretation of the theme, originality and quality of art, overall design, demonstration of artistic ability, and usage of medium. Jury decided to select 93 artworks for inclusion in the exhibition. Aside from First, Second, and Third place Jury also presented Merit awards and Honorable Mention awards.

Andrew Leventis - Freezer Box (Vanitas)

Statement:
Andrew Leventis creates intricately detailed oil paintings of contemporary vanitas. He has recently depicted his stocked refrigerator and icebox throughout the global pandemic. Andrew earned a BFA from the American Academy of Art in Chicago and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Venues exhibiting his work include York Art Gallery, UK; the Venice Arsenale, Italy; the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art, Korea; and Manifest Creative Research Gallery, Ohio. His work has been featured in art periodicals such as Aesthetica Magazine and New American Paintings. Andrew is an Assistant Professor of Painting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Statement:
Jing Wenchi, female, born in October 1996 in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, studied painting since childhood. From 2014 to 2014, she was admitted to the second studio of the Oil Painting Department of China Academy of Art. She studied for seven consecutive years. She joined Hangzhou Fine Arts Vocational School in 2021 and is now a painting teacher of Hangzhou Fine Arts Vocational School. In July 2015, the national calligraphy and painting works were collected by the Professional Basic Teaching Department of China Academy of Art. In December 2016, the oil painting body sketch was collected by the Oil Painting Department of China Academy of Art. In December 2019, the oil painting "Arrival" was selected for the 7th Jiangsu New Artists Exhibition. In November 2019, the oil painting "The Unbearable Weight of Life" was selected into the "Yingwu·Taste Xiang" 2019 Zhejiang Oil Painting Exhibition. In December 2019, oil painting body sketching was selected for the Undergraduate Gold Course Exhibition of China Academy of Art. In November 2022, the oil painting "Under the Sun" will be selected for the National Still Life Oil Painting Exhibition.

Statement:
Liu Xiaowei, now a professional painter, was born in Panjin City, Liaoning Province in 1983. He studied at Liaoning Province Arts and Crafts School and Repin Academy of Fine Arts. His works have been selected for many awards in international competitions and international exhibitions, and many of his works have been collected by private individuals and institutions.
