Sharon Teabo - One Right Door
(colored pencil)
Statement:
My work has utilized a variety of media over the years. Early favorites were centered around realism and scientific images. Regardless of approach or style, most of my works contain something distinctive. The current cubed series of drawings and paintings first had figures inside each cube, but later works show the figures outside the cubes as if they escaped containment. Thousands of tiny figures interact with geometric patterns in these pieces, sequentially forming larger patterns that shift depending on the light source or the viewer's distance. This series has transitioned from 2-D patterns to interactive 3D spaces, to more in-depth storytelling by creating environments for tiny figures in each work. Sharon Teabo, who has a BFA in graphic design and an MFA in illustration, worked as an artist-in-residence and an artist-in-the-schools sponsored by the WV Department of Culture and History. Teabo's artwork has been displayed internationally and ranges from ink to acrylic and from realism to abstraction. Although her art has been compared to Escher's, a reviewer praised her as being exceptional and a master of color following one of her exhibitions in New York's SOHO district. Teabo's creations have appeared in books, journals, and several private collections. For numerous years, she worked as a commercial illustrator, taught academic art classes (undergraduate and graduate), and offered workshops in a variety of mediums.
Randy Leoncini - A Saturday Morning
(charcoal pencil)
Statement:
Randy Leoncini was born in New Jersey. He has had many creative outlets over time however, drawing and painting were his first true loves. As he got exposed to varied artistic styles, he found inspiration in fine artists and illustrators. These figures defined the type of art he wanted to create and helped him find his artistic footing. This piece is extremely personal to me; as it is about navigating through complex pathways such as overcoming addiction, self-reflection, moving on and letting go.This is a culmination of my representational training as well as my former life pursuing graffiti art. Enjoying familiar places with new creative outlooks, such as walking the train yard in the early morning with the woman I love.
